Default PLEASE HELP: National characters vs Imports issue

    Hello folks,

and sorry but I am not an expert so my questions might sound silly. Tried searching the Forum but did not find a satisfactory (understandable) answer. I appreciate your help very much.

Here's the config of my server machine:
    OS: Windows XP SP2
    SugarCRM: v4.5.0c BitRock (sugarcrm-bitrock-4.5.0c-windows-installer.exe)
Webserver: Apache?? (the one that comes with BitRock)
PHP: v4.4.3?? (the one that comes with BitRock)
MySQL: v5.0.24?? (the one that comes with BitRock)

First of all I must say I had NO problem installing the BitRock SugarCRM package. It even works! I am impressed - that was easy! Anyway:

    Issue #1:
Having problems with support of Czech (East European) national characters. Although it seems they do work within the SugarCRM well (although I did not test all sections of the system), I do have a specific issue when importing e.g. Contacts from a CSV file into the Sugar. Czech national characters are omitted from the CSV file during import. (please see attachment #1 - ISSUE1_contacts_issue.zip)

    Issue #2:
    When running an SQL script in MySQL Query Browser: SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'char%';
    it shows latin1 for character_set_database and character_set_server (should not rather be utf8??) - please see attachment #2 - ISSUE2_charsets_in_mysql.gif.

    Issue #3:
I like the ease of BitRock installer - the system can be setup in minutes. Anyway - the installer installs MySQL even though MySQL is already running on the machine. Is it possible to install BitRock SugarCRM into the existing installation of MySQL?
Also, please notice that even though v4.5.0c BitRock SugarCRM installer should contain MySQL 5.0.24, diagnostic.zip (attached) file contains a different information - MySQL Version: 3.23.49. Weird...

That's it. If you have an answer to any or all of these topics I would very much welcome if you could share it. All the best,

    Martin

    Hi
For the issue#1, I think you need to convert the charset of the csv file to UTF-8 before you import it to SugarCRM.

Do you have any issue with #2? Is there any area where SugarCRM is not correctly behaving?

    Hi Ruchida,

This actually did help, thanks much for a tip (I could have figured out this one myself)!

As for issue #2 no, I do not see a problem there however I did not give this a thorough testing. Still, I think it would be better is UTF8 was used everywhere in MySQL...

Regarding #3, any ideas there (on how to install BitRock Sugar on an already installed MySQL)?

    Thanks much again,

    Martin
