Default POP for inbound email accounts

    Relevant info:

    Sugar 6.1
    Sugar Professional (On Demand)
I'm using Windows as an end user.

Email campaigns apparently require bounce handling, so I am trying to set that up. Under the admin panel, I click Inbound Emaill, and enter an email account. Under Mail Server Protocol, the only option is IMAP. Our business email only supports POP. Is there any way to just have bounced emails go straight to our main email account without using IMAP?

Sugar strongly discourages using POP3, but you can manually enable support for it. However, because you are using the OnDemand instance, you will need to make that request of the Sugar support staff. They should be able to take care of that for you.

Note that because they discourage its use, you should not expect much assistance with any problems you might face that are directly tied to using POP3.

Can you elaborate briefly on why POP use is discouraged? I will make my request via support tickets, but I am curious to know why IMAP is superior for what seems to be a mere incoming message.

    Edit:
Also, while we're on the topic, it seems as if web-to-lead needs to be tied to an email campaign. Do you have any insight on the relationship between the two?

It is not an issue of one being better vs. the other per se.

Sugar decided to stop supporting it as of version 5.5. Essentially they came to a point where they felt their development efforts were better spent if they focused solely on IMAP.

Many of us disagreed with the approach (including myself) and the subsequent discussion on the matter on these forums helped push the Sugar folks to at least allow users to enable support manually.

Re: web-to-lead, you don't have to use it in conjunction with a campaign. It compliments a campaign, but can be used independent of it.

    Thanks for the reply.

On the Lead Form Wizard, Related Campaign is a required field. So I merely made a quick campaign to tie to that lead form. However, this is only possible because I am using a temporary Gmail address set up to handle inbound bounced emails (since Gmail offers IMAP). WIthout an email account that supports IMAP, I wouldn't be able to even create an email campaign. I suppose I'll just wait on support to switch to POP for me and see how that turns out?
