Default Is it possible to have Products and Services modules?

    Hello,

Forgive me for being a newbie on the block! We use Sugar OnDemand. While we are still tweaking things a bit, I've had a request to try and create a module separate (but almost identical to) Products and call it 'Services.'

So bascially, what I want are two modules: 1.) A Products Module (designating one-off purchases) and 2.) a customized 'Services' Module (representing things that are renewed annually), and I want them to behave very similarly.

I was unable to find a Product module 'template' in the module builder, so I've attempted to replicate the Products Module from scratch with the Basic Template and use this as my 'Services' module. This seems like a very time-consuming solution as I have to put in all the fields, relationships, etc from scratch.

1.) Is there a reason why there is no Product-like template in the Module Builder, when there are Sales, Accounts, etc... available?

2.) Is there an easier way I could go about this? Also, are there any unforseen problems that this would cause (for reporting, etc).

3.) Am I going about this all wrong?

Thanks in advance for any advice or help! I'm sorry if I haven't explained things in a very comprehensive way. I am eager to learn, however!

Sorry to bump, but can anyone shed some light on this?
    Many thanks.

Basically the way you have gone about this is probably the only and best way to do it.
It IS a lot of work but that is what it takes to build any good module.

Once you have reached the stage with the module builder where the whole framework is in place you can customize further by publishing the module, unzipping the zip, customize the code and zip it up and install again.

Thanks so much for the reply and reassuring me that I'm on the right track.

I will crack on and see how it goes. You are right about the amount of work involved but you do have a point - it's probably the best way to learn!

    Thanks once again.
