Default Is this possible with Sugar (free version)

    Hey guys.

I have just started with a company and they have no real CRM package on their system. I dont know much about CRM and got a few people to come in and do a presentation for us but WOW they were so expensive. ! $10 000 (based in South Africa) for 2 years for 8 users.

I then decided to just ask our web host if they have any programs and they recommended this sugar CRM and its free (with its limits). So i had a look at it yesterday and it does not seem to bad.

Basically from what i see is that the sales manager wants some type of tool to monitor her team (5 people). Our company reps are writing everything down and giving it to the sales manager of what they did for the day and what they will be doing for the week ahead. I see that Sugar CRM has the ability to see:

My calls ( How many calls can one place under here, and is it possible to do it by date ?)
    My meetings
    My top 10
    My Accounts
    My Leads

Which is great. Our sales reps are not performing so this will be able to see what they are doing and why they are not performing. So by this way our Sales manager will be able to view what they have in the pipe line, and see what they have done. (Sorry if this is a stupid question.) But will the sales manager when logged into the system to able to click on the rep and see what they have done/doing for the week? When clicking on Home it shows the list mentioned above. Will it show for everyone or just for that individual ? (Hope for that individual)

I know this is open source program but does one need to run on the program on the internet or can one install it on the server and run it from there?

    Thanks for all your help.

I think sugar will be a good choice for your company.

You can install SugarCRM on your own server and you have full access to all the sources (it is open source).
    Download CE here: http://www.sugarcrm.com/crm/download
In sugarforge (http://www.sugarforge.org/) you'll find additional modules, most of them free to use.

Sugar can be customized in many ways. E.g. you can set how many calls you want to see in MyCalls dashlet and which filter criteria should be used. With role settings you can define that only the owner has access to his data.

Thank you so much for this. Will download it at home. How do we open it then? Once i download it what must i do with it then. Is it like a program that has a .exe file ? Never done this so your help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks a million !

You need a webserver with activated PHP (e.g. Apache) and a database (MySQL). Sugar is programmed with php and uses the database for the data.
There are stack installers available that are installing all that is needed.

Here is an overview of supported plattform components:

Here is a nice tool giving some help to decide what you need for your environment:

What i mean by server is the office server and not the website server? So that we dont need the internet as the internet connection at work is so slow. Takes about 1 min to open a page.

The webserver can run locally on your own computer or on a server in your local network.

We have positive experience with MySQL and as far as I know most Sugar users work with MySQL.

It doesn't really matter which one you download, the first comes with SQL Server, the other one with MySQL as the database. Just choose the database type you prefer to work with, that's all.

Installation is self-explanatory, once it is completed you can access your SugarCRM through the browser and navigating to your local IP/sugarcrm, so for example: 192.168.1.1/sugarcrm/
