Default printing (etc!) with rPath installation

After not getting anywhere trying to install SugarCRM on a CentOS 5.0 system, I decided to try the rPath ISO (creates a SugarCRM appliance). At least superficially, it works. There are a couple issues.

For example, how can I print? SugarCRM has the ability to print (which I haven't tested on any system), but the rPath installation doesn't seem to have printing set up, or even something that can be set up. I need to print to a network printer.

Another issue is upgrading. It correctly identifies that there is a more recent version, but there seems to be no way to actually upgrade. There is no way that I've found to download the upgrade.

    Any tips?

    Thanks.

    Hi there,

You can download the latest patch here and then go into the Admin module and run the Upgrade Wizard to apply it. You can find instructions on how to run the Upgrade Wizard here.

This info is fine for upgrading SugarCRM. The problem is actually downloading. The rPATH "appliance" doesn't have anything to download with! I can't find ftp, wget, lynx, etc. and the admin interface doesn't have the capability.

    Hi there,

I'm not sure if this scenario applies to you, but in my case, I'm running my Sugar installation through a VMWare session. I just download the patch via my web browser running on my PC (outside the VMWare application), then when I run the Upgrade Wizard within Sugar, it asks me for a file to use and I just choose that file on my hard disk.

Yeah, the real intent on upgrading the Sugar components is that you are using a web browser from another system to go to the admin interface on Sugar and then upload the patch straight through that interface. So, use your browser to go download the update to your desktop system and then browse to the admin interface and go through the update procedure. It will prompt you to upload the patch file there and pull it from your local system.

If you _really_ want to do it from the appliance itself you can log in as root and run 'conary update wget --resolve' Or if you like some other command line download utility you can substitute. I think the update files go somewhere under /usr/share/sugarcrm, but I'm not sure where.

On the printing, again, the normal idea is that you are printing screens from your local desktop, including dumping searches to CSV's or the like and printing them locally. If you really do need server side printing then you will need to install the Linux printing utilities and configure them. I am not sure what all they are, but they would be installed the same way as wget described above. Probably lpr at the least.

    I hope that helps!

It seems to me that your problems are not related to sugar OS but to Linux system administration and to sugar way of working.

As Nathan said the printing goes on client side, the user from the browser selects what he/she wants to print and the printing configuration is done on his/her desktop, so the network printer must be configured on the desktop not on server.

To manage sugar, and assuming that all is well configured, all that you need is admin password and a browser. All the upgrades/module installations are done using a browser.
If you get any problems with the installation check the permissions. Something like chown -R APACHE_USER:APACHE_GROUP SUGAR_DIR will work.

    Hope it helps.
