Problem with Contacts popup search

I am having difficulties finding the solution to a problem. When I click the search button for a Contacts field, I get a pop up window that contains just the text "Contact Search", "Contact List" and the Clear and Cancel buttons. No fields are displayed nor is the list of contacts.

When I look at the apache error logs, the only error that comes up relating to this is:

What file(s) might I have hosed to screw this up? What file(s) can I replace with a backup copy to make things right in my Sugar world?

For grins, I duplicated my environment to test a few things out. I replaced the /modules/Contacts directory and the /Xtemplate directory with stock copies from a new install. Still having the same issue.

More information.

When I click for a standard Contacts search popup like Reports To when creating a new contact, the window that pops up links here and this doesn't work.:

However, if I were to click to create an archived email and click the To:, BCC: or CC buttons, I get a window that pops up a link to this, and it DOES give me a proper pop up window:

I can tell that it's passing different parameters to the php, but I'm not sure where to look and make any necessary changes to fix the standard box link.

I seemed to have fixed the problem for the time being. i found a patch file (?) that was in the directory named popup.php that I renamed to popup.php.back and everythign is working normally.
