problem in creating case.

Hi,
While creating case, Last name is showing the compulsory field.I want to make it mandatory field. How could it possible.Please help me out.

Compulsory and mandatory have the same meaning. could you make it clear?

I want to make all the fields as optional.Last name is taking as compulsory field now.But I want to make it optional field.

In the link provided by you helps me in removing fields but I not need that presently.I want to just set Last Name as optional field rather than compulsory field.
It helps me while I exports .cvs files only with mobile number.Presently I have last name and mobile numbers as compulsory field.
Please help me.
