Problem sending outbound email using SMTP

Can anybody help?

I have set up email using POP3 in Sugar CE 5.5.0. Incoming mail is fine but outbound email is generating error message.

Message Cannot be Sent
Error emailing:SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.

my mail server is Powweb and i have used the correct settings as i would in outlook. Have i done something wrong?

I am having the same issue. Just installed a fresh installation of SugarCE-5.5.2
Everything seems to be working so far except outgoing smtp. I have Postfix running on the same host as sugar (localhost) and it other apps(avantfax) running on this host can send with smtp just fine.

When I click [send test email] I get no mail. when I check the logs I get this.

Sat May  8 11:39:21 2010 [10619][1][FATAL] SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server. Code: 0 Reply:  
Sat May  8 11:39:21 2010 [10619][1][FATAL] SugarPHPMailer encountered an error: SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.
Sat May  8 11:39:21 2010 [10619][1][FATAL] SugarPHPMailer encountered an error: The outbound mail server selected for the mail account you are using is invalid.  Check the settings or select a different mail server for the mail account.

smtp server: 127.0.0.1

We also tried pointing it to our local zimbra server on the lan. got the same message. not sure what to do now.

I'm having exactly the same issue on a fresh install of 5.5.2 on CentOS 5.4 (x86_64).
Where would I find the logs that you mentioned?
I'll check mine also and post back here.

I am having the same issues and have been for over a month now. I have tried a multitude of SMTP servers, all of them give me the same error. Any guidance would be much appreciated as I'm not sure what else to try.

Hi Tmanisaur, and all others,

Have you tried sending with 'sendmail' yet, does it work. Please try it, this way we can start eliminating possible suspects.
