Problems with 4.5.1 Studio

I am having trouble editing layouts in 4.5.1.
It won't let me move any existing fields. When I click and try to move them nothing happens.
When I add rows, I can only add fields to the portion of the row that is for the data - no place for the lable appears.
When I create a custom field it either doens't appear in the list on the left or it appears but it won't add to the layout. It looks like it does but when I save it's not there.
Is there some trick I'm missing or a patch or something or someway I can go back to 4.2.1 when the Studio actually worked?

If you don't have yet any custom field, try to restore(from the original SugarCRM package) the .html files of the module you are trying to edit. The files are

/modules/$MODULE/EditView.html
/modules/$MODULE/DetailView.html
/modules/$MODULE/ListView.html
/modules/$MODULE/SearchForm.html

where $MODULE is the module name. Restore only the ones you are having trouble.

And don't forget! Always before edit any layout with Studio you have to PRAY! Pray, pray, pray a lot. Because Studio is a junk piece of software. And it have the power to destroy your templates like magic.

And don't forget to make a backup of your instalation of Sugar (files and database) before you make an upgrade... and you can go back when problems occurs.

We had the same problem with 4.5.1 studio - we thought it was a bug. However - we discovered in an online session with sugar support that it's simply related to the slow response of the system.

If you hold the mouse click long enough for the field to change color to grey outline - sometimes takes several seconds - it will move.

Since it happens randomly based on system response, it's maddening till you figure out it's related to system reponse and not the code.

We also had trouble with some of the fields and labels getting disassociated and scattered around. We had to remove the lines with the problems and rebuild the forms. Once we deleted the lines with the problem fields - they appeared in the left column and we could start over.

You can try switching to Mozilla FireFox for a browser - it seems to speed up response most days.......

If you are running OnDemand - response time is a huge issue. It is both long and variable with occassional bursts of speed that make you think it's fixed..............
