Default process for module update/upgrade development

    Hi,

how is the process to update a module?

I'm developing a module and I want to install a new release of the module.
If I deinstall at first the old module, every data is deleted and when I install the new module "over" the old one, I can't deinstall both - only one (because the module root is already deleted when I want to deinstall the second).

So how to update a module without delete existing data and keep the possibility to uninstall the complete module?

    Thanks for help.
    Andi
