Default Product Catalog Hierarchy Does Not Expand

This could be a useability question but I can't get my product catalog hierarchy to expand. First I create categories and then I create more categories with parent categories. Then I add products to a specific child category. I create a quote and then I try to select a product. But when I try to expand the category with the + key, nothing happens. I don't see the child category and I don't see any products under the parent categories. It looks like the code that needs to execute is Javascript:

    javascript: TREES['1'].toggle(4)

I don't know much about Javascript or the interaction of Javascript to SugarCRM. Do I have to do something else before a product category hierarchy will expand?

I'm really quite keen to get this working. I have just noticed similar behavior if I install the demo data as provided by SugarCRM Professional. Could anybody tell me where to get premium support for this issue?

I've just noticed that if you import products, and also import a category field with the product, new categories are created dynamically. However, if you use the quote module and you browse the product catalog, you don't see any of the categories. Only new categories that have been created from scratch as opposed to being imported displays. I'm assuming that creating a new category from scratch also generates the product catalogue hierarchy stored in what appears to be the "category_tree" table. If anyone has any experience with the category tree please let me know!

    kind regards,

Somebody spent a lot of time on getting this working in 4.5. It's working absolutely perfectly in 4.5. Thank you very much! Now I can move forward!

This still does NOT work in Version 4.5.1b (Build 1246) Pro. I can't believe it, I've found to nasty bugs already.

Here is an update. You are right.

    1. The category tree doesn't work properly. It's intermittent. On my PC it now works about 90% of the time. Normally it will display the whole tree but every now and again it gets stuck and only shows one root category. I tried minimising the database by removing 'deleted' records but the effect is the same. Maybe it's the interaction with JSON?

    2. On my system there is a table called 'category_tree' which appears to not be used any more. It looks like the tree is generated elsewhere.

    3. In a .NET Sugar clone called Splended CRM, the table 'cateogry_tree' has been dropped completely.

    4. Have you ever tried importing categories? You will notice that if you specify the parent, it imports it as text, where in the database schema it's actually stored as GUIDs. So importing categories that have parent assigned is useless.

Could somebody please spend some time on the category tree and the category importer? We are after all paying for this functionality (in the professional version)...

At least now in version 5 this issue might come to the foreground more often, since I see in version 5 the Studio also relies on the same treeview if you want to select your items. Exactly the same problem is happening in the Studio now, when you try to load or refresh the page the items aren't always there. Let's hope for the best and that some soul from the Professional team stumbles upon this post. I've still to figure out what channels to follow if you're running the Pro version, as reporting these kinds of problems in amongst thousands of open-source posts doesn't make sense to me.

yes i agree, we actually had a enterprise license, this year we downgraded to the professional, because of other reasons,

but i just noticed this too, these are the open source forums,yet.. there are no professional forums.

We are 5.0 users and are currently experiencing the same difficulties. Hopefully this will get assessed soon as it is vital to the success of our business...
