Project Task > 'depends on' > Notification

Hi All,

I am completely new to SugarCRM and my boss wants an automated process I don't seem to be able to deliver with the community edition - if the following is taken care of in the paid editions then can someone please post a link to details about it - I can't find it.

Basically, when the boss duplicates a project full of pre-assigned project tasks, in a new clients name, he wants everybody whose task is immediately 'do-able' to get an email, any task which has an incomplete dependency ('depends on') he doesn't want people being distracted by until they too are 'do-able'.

I can't arrange it, every time an individual with the right to assign another individual a task does so, the assigned individual gets the notification email no matter the status of the 'depends on' task. I've hunted through the forums and the wiki - I'm sure someone else must have been down this road and I just can't find their trail.

Please help me with anything you think might, please please tell me if I am barking up the wrong tree trying to achieve this with 'project tasks'.

I'm still searching both the forums and the wiki for new terms I think of relating to the general idea I am asking about, still no luck.

As far as I can tell "depends on" doesn't do anything at all.

We too would utilize the functionality that you're looking for.

Pity that it does seem the 'depends on' is a purely visual flag and that nothing hinges on it conditionally, no doubt when I've learnt much more PHP I'll be able to write the bits my boss wants - 9/10ths the way through ASP now, PHP is next and I'm 37, at last I'm learning something useful.

I'm reading some things that make me think it may be possible to setup the 'workflows module' in the paid eds of SugarCRM to achieve this goal but I don't find enough concrete on it to bother my boss about, I may have to insist to him that we do the thirty day trial of the enterprise ed so as to find out - we don't rush into this because there are three of us and every hour spent testing CRMs isn't immediately generating business income.

Can anyone say confidently that the automated process my boss wants is blindingly easy to set in place in the paid editions of SugarCRM? Can anyone point out an OS module that either comes close or simply does this?
