    Default Quick question on Files

    Hey Everyone,

I am sure that I could check this for myself but the Demo is broken on the site. I was just curious as to whether or not you could upload files (jpgs, tifs, pdfs, any file really) and manage them in folders. I thought I saw a Documents tab somewhere but I can't find it in the features list.

Also, does it allow you to restrict who has access to specific folders? LIke having a folder for Admin level users that Employee level users cannot access.

    Thanks.

yes files can be uploaded to sugar in the documents section of sugar crm. you do not create folders, and really have no need to do so. SugarCRM has fields that describe a document. for example out of the box sugar has a field in the documents module labeled category. this allows you to identify, or tag files pertaining to a specific subject. (the available items in the category dropdown list can be edited in the dropdown editor on admin screen) once you have a category selected you can easily filter your documents to show you those for a specific category. you can save your searches, and they will act in a manner similar to folders, only will be better because the documents can by searched on many different terms. this is called metadata.

as for restricting access. If you are a community user then the answer is no you can't create access to files based on a user role. you can change access so that users can only see items assigned to them, but this does not allow for a group of users to access the file. this concept is a feature of Sugar Pro and Enterprise called teams. Teams allow you to restrict access based on team membership. you can then assign multiple teams to any record.
