    Default Relating Calls & Meetings from Contacts to Accounts

    Hi,

    If a Call of Meeting is created under a Contact it will appear in the History of that contact, but how can I have it also appear in the History of the Contacts Accounts.

    So no matter what the Call or Meeting is created under I need it to always show up under the Account also.

    What is the best way to acheive this?

    OK so I have this solved now.

    If you create a Call or Meeting via the subpanel of a Contacts it is automatically related to the Contacts Account by setting the Parent Type to Accounts and the Parent ID to the Contacts Account ID.

    but if you use the Shortcut bar on the top of the CRM it doesn't set the Parent to the Account of the Contact but it does add the contact via the calls_contacts and meetings_contacts tables.

    So a Before save logic hook was needed to change the Parent Type to Accounts and the ID to the ID of the Contact.

    A common request I have seen in other areas as well. Like many things this can be accomplished with our KINAMU Reporter by creating a union report and publishing the report as a Subpanel. It took me about 5 Minutes to create such a Subpanel and I took the effort to put a step-by-step introduction into a document that you can find here.

    Of course only shows a straight forward approach to it. With some more steps you can also add all kinds of further related activities or other objects.

    The other option would be to add a whole bunch of relationships and links in the custom vardefs and populate the account id redundant many times ... and then you can only show it for the accounts ... but what if you want to show the calls of an account underneath a contact as additional info? :-)

    Hi thanks for the reply,

    But it seems the issue I am having is a bug in Sugar as the logic I applied in the Logic hook is getting applied by default when Calls or Meeting are created via the Contacts Subpanel.

    Bug or Feature is a good question. The behavior is like that since I remember sugar and is based on the call parameters ...

    In any case ... if you want to link more than just through the call or meeting from contact and account (e.g. also show calls assigned to tasks of that account) you will either need to code all the relationships or take an approach as the document shows with our reporter.
