Relating data from one module to another

Hi,

Right in my accounts module i have a sector feild. I would like to relate that feild to a feild in contacts...so by clicking on a contact you can see what sector they work in. Or you can search contacts by there sector for doing marketing. This feild doenst need to be editable within the contact but does need to be updated from accounts.....
I know you can relate a whole record but can you relate just a small bit of data?

Any ideas?
