Default Relating email in accounts and cases

I've looked through the forums, and I haven't found anything quite like what I'm having trouble with-though this may be a result of my search skills failing.

Anyway, I'm having a small problem, and I'm sure there is an easy way to do this.

I'd like to set it up so that when you start a case, and enter in user data, a field populates from pre-existing accounts, or, if you're creating a new account, it writes from the case to the account.

I've created an email field in both cases and accounts, for instance, but I haven't been able to tie them together.

I'm sure this is very easy: can anyone point me to a HOWTO or provide suggestions as to what I should do?

I've gotten my answer on this: it's not there currently, but it's become a feature request: 27601. (There is a older similar request: 11778.)

The thread here covers similar ground.
