Remove "Sales Stage" from a "sales" quick create

I have built a custom "donations" module based off the sales module. In hindsight, I probably should have just started from scratch, but I'm too stubborn to start over now. I was able to remove "sales stage" which has no meaning for donations off all of the views, including quick create. However, on the left panel, "Sales Stage" still exists as a required dropdown. How can I get rid of that, along with it being a required field?

Copy modules/<MODULE_NAME>/metadata/sidecreateviewdefs.php
and paste into custom direcotyr
custom/modules/<MODULE_NAME>/metadata/sidecreateviewdefs.php
and comment the sales_stage array.

And quick repair & rebuild.
