Renaming Custom Fields

I have found that I have a problem with one of my custom field names, and it neads to be changed for the application to function properly... one of my field names is reg_no, and when the search pages tries to pass that field, the & in front of the field name changes it to ® and thus will not display results.

How would I go about changing the field name, since I already have several thousand records populated using the field?

Hi, I did not get how is it getting changed to ®. Do you mean the case of "r" gets changed. i.e., r becomes R? Second thing is I have never seen a custom field without an "_c" suffix. So is your field "reg_no" too "reg_no_c"?

Please explain the exact scenario so that I can understand the problem and help you.
