salesforce to sugarcrm import

Sales force having ids (18 characters) while sugarcrm has ids(36 characters) .
I think i have to start importing from the user table itself.
But how to manage all the ids ? can the ids in salesforce works fine in sugarcrm directly or we have to convert the salesforce ids into sugarcrm format of ids(i.e. 18 chars into 36 chars) or it will work as it is?
