Search across modules

Hi,

I would like to know if we can search for records across modules... i.e specifying search fields from different modules in a single query.... What is Sugar Global/unified search?? Does this solve my problem?? How to access this??

Hi Madhu

Yes, the Unified Search fits your needs.

When typing some word on Unified Search SugarCRM will look for such word in all fields set as "Unified Search" in all modules also set as "Unified Search".
Which field/module are you trying to search for?

Thank you... i was wondering if this feature is available in community edition too?? How do i enable it?
I dont remember seeing any 'unified search' option while creating fields or modules?? Can you please give me more details how to use this...

I am looking for searching contacts module and 2 custom modules i have created....

Look at the right top corner of the screen. You will see a text field and a button (Search). This one is the unified search feature.

but this doesnt solve my problem.... This is just one text box searching all modules... what i want is...
Supposing i have 3 modules, Module A, B and C ... A has one to many relationship with B and C... i want to search a record, which matches a few fields of A , a few fields of B and a few fields of C...


Example

Module A
Name : Hrishi
City : San Jose

Module B
Donation : 1000 $

Module C
Education : Phd

Now, with these info... how do i query so that i get this record in one search????

If i search modules separately, i end up getting huge number of records

I've got a RelatedData module that does something like that. You'll create custom fields for Module A that point to Modules B and C and put them in the Module A search area so that you can search on the related module values. You can find RelatedData and it's documentation at www.eggsurplus.com

Unfortunately there's not. I had the same need so to fill the gap I had to create RelatedData
