Search help

Hiow do I do a search on one field and where another is something like >0 or NULL in the advanced search panels?

eg. I want to search on all opportunities where customer="xyz" and cusom_filed1 is NULL or <0. I can't seem to make these combinations work?

I would like to know how to search for null values as well. So far i have been working around it by running an sql script that converts all nulls to the text value of "N/A" and then searching for that.
