searching contacts in history subpanel of accounts

We use a fresh CE 6.2.1 installation and have not touched the source code but installed a German language module.

After opening a contact and clicking on "Create Note or Attachment" in the History subpanel, I click on the Contact field. But when I enter "Smith" no entries appear in the popup dropdown - although there are several contacts named Smith in our system. If, however, I enter "Michael", numerous names are listed in the popup dropdown - but all of them are the last names of people whose first name is "Michael", e.g. "Newman", "Goldwyn", "Harding".

This doesn't make sense and is not standard behaviour. I tried the demo installation of a Sugar CRM consulting firm I googled and their installation didn't show the behaviour described above.

Do you have any suggestions?

Can you reproduce this same issue with en_us language pack?

Yes andopes, I can reproduce the problem when choosing English (US) as language.

Also, I just took a look at http://trial.sugarcrm.com and the Enterprise 6.2.1 has the same problem that I described. So is this a bug that has not been fixed yet?

After half an hour of reading entries in the offizial Sugar CRM Bug Tracker, I found the following one:

"The customer would like to have contacts.last_name as quick search field like in Sugar 5, but Sugar 6 it's set to first_name. If we search for contact last_name the list remains empty however if we search by first_name the contacts could be found."

Is this the same problem that I have described?
