Default Separate instances of CRM on one server

Hi all. I know this question has already been asked in one form or another here, but I'm still none the wiser.

I run a call centre and require separate instances of Sugar to enable me to load unique data for each campaign I do on behalf of a client and to also have unique user defined fields as each campaign has different requirements for data capture.

I'm by no means computer illiterate however I can't follow the instructions in other posts. Is there some way to do what I need and is it relatively easy?

I am a Sugar Ambassador and recommend it to all of my clients who all get view of the database features during their campaign.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

Yeah it's easy, I am a total newbie and am doing it myself. Set up a second MySQL database, upload another copy of SugarCE into a separate folder of a different name, then install using new database's credentials. Simple.

If you need help with making the databases, etc. you will want to contact your web host or internet documentation for that, but as far as SugarCRM is concerned, the above is the entire procedure.

Thanks for your post Matt. I'll give that a go and hopefully it works.

If anyone has any further instructions for dummies, please post.

    Thanks all.

I've tried to do this. I have copied the database via the backup/restore function in mysql so I now have two databases. The first is sugar_db and the second is sugar_test. I have then uploaded a new copy of SugarCE into a different folder. The original folder is called sugarcrm-5.5.2 and the new folder is sugarcrm-test. During that process it asked whether I wanted to create a new database or use another. I have tried both creating a new and using the existing test database I set up but the credentials don't work. It keeps saying invalid username or db name.

This is wierd considering I'm pretty sure I have done everything right.

Oh, it's using windows authentication and not SQL. I have tried every username I can think of, the pc login username, PC name as a username, and all the listed SQL usernames including sys, guest etc.

I must be missing an important step. Any ideas?

    Cheers.

Oh, and although it installed fine when I selected create a new database and called it the same as the one I created in mysql earlier, I can't seem to locate it via the web browser. What do you type in to find the new instance of Sugar? The original login screen has this address attached. http://10.0.0.2/sugarcrm/index.php?a...n_action=index
