Question The server encountered an unexpected condition....

Hello, I am using PowWeb as a host... i have to admit, 9 times out of 10, their support is very knowledgeable, and extraordinarily helpful, but when it comes to THIS issue, they've screwed around with it for a few days now and have come to no conclusions... they gave me the level 1 support answer of "well it's timing out"..

    no crap?????????

    ok here's the issue....

I clicked a button from their panel, and installed a version of sugar. it was something like 4.1. i upgraded to 4.5.1

i would like to further upgrade to 5.1x or 5.2 or whatever the newest is. I updated from 4.1 to 4.2. something, and it worked fine, however switching to 4.5.1 it didn't work and gave me a few issues which i was able to fix myself by refreshing the config file from the admin.

after that, and completely logging out and refreshing, it worked well...

everything worked..... but then the next day, i went to try to upload some modules i downloaded to see what they were about, and when i clicked the module adder, i got this message..

"The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.
The script had an error or it did not produce any output. If there was an error, you should be able to see it in the error log. "

well.... the error log doesn't tell me much. the error log to me is like those guys who look at core samples from the sea floor.. i have no clue what i'm looking at... it looks like MUD to me... know what i mean? and honestly, i don't remember where to find the sugar log file.. i found it once by accident and haven't seen it since.

any thoughts on how to fix this??????????????

when i was trying to fix the upgrade issue, i tried to "repair" a few things, and may have repaired something that wasn't broken.. could that have caused it? if so how do i break it so i can repair it correctly?

    any help is greatly appreciated!

I've had mixed success with PowWeb.

I've used their services for several years for a personal domain and haven't had any problems with it. I added Sugar to it at one point for testing, but I did it by hand, not through the control panel that they offer. Performance was OK, but not blazing, at the same time, it was only for me to play with, so it is not a true representation of a production system.

A while back I installed it on PowWeb for a client and I remember having to manually tweak the PHP settings in order to get 5.0 to install on it.

Before you get too far down the road, you should be aware that said client also had a lot of performance problems which PowWeb was unable to assist with. In fairness, they are not SugarCRM experts, nor do they run a SugarCRM specific data center, thus there is only so much they can do. I spent quite a bit of time applying every tweak I could find to try to speed it up, but while performance seemed better on my system, it was never quite the same for the client, good performance was sporadic at best.

In the end, I helped him move to HostGator and the client immediately reported much better performance. If you choose to go the same route and use HostGator, be aware that you will need to switch your account to use PHP 5 and you will have to use the latest version of Sugar (5.2.e).

    thanks.

just an update for those who find this.

i did switch to hostgator, and they weren't able to run 5.2 for the same reasons.. turns out powweb and hostgator both have a 64mb limit on php scripts. 5.X takes more than that to run. i had to cancel the account

and went back with powweb with sugar crm 4.1x though it doesn't do all the stuff i need

That seems a bit weird to me. Per my previous post, one of our clients uses hostgator and he is on 5.0. But without any errors, etc. I can't advice on why your instance of 5.2 wasn't able to run on hostgator.
