Show LeadSource in Accounts

Hi

How can I have the Lead Source show up in Accounts?

We purchase lists which I will import into Sugar as Leads. When they are telemarketed and more info is collected we will turn them into Contacts. At this point the Lead Source is still part of the chain in Sugar.

When they are sold we convert them into Accounts. At this point the Lead Source is no longer visible.

Obviously it is vital for management to see which lead sources are generating sales.

Am I using Sugar correctly? If so,
How can I have the Lead Source show up in Accounts?

You need to create such field on Accounts through Studio and then create a logic_hook before_save on Accounts.
This logic_hook needs to check if module is Leads and if action is ConvertLead. If so, then retrieve the lead and set the custom field on Accounts based on lead_source from Leads.

If I created a field called "List" in Leads, Contacts and Accounts would this be carried through when a lead was converted to a Contact and then an Account.

I am trying to do this as well and just found this thread I have no idea what the above means but does that mean its something you have to code and not something you can do in the standard system?

That blows me away if that is the case as surely most people want to know where their clients originated from?

Yes coding is the only way, to do the above.

Start looking for tutorials on how to do a logic hook, or i guess find someone.

I achieved this by creating our own lead source drop down field and using that instead of the inbuilt ones. Then create one in accounts and contacts with the same name and it shows up in the convert form.

I have to say I think this is a huge oversight. We use the accounts tab to list all of the people who end up being customers. To not be able to report on these customers and how they found out about your business is surely a basic feature of a CRM!! I was really hoping this would be fixed in version 6 but its not.

why don't you make a module where you would store indormation about your accounts then? or just add up more fields to accounts to satisfy the need.
