    Default Size on server

Hi guys, I'm about to install Sugar and don't know whether to use my existing web server (it hosts various websites I manage) or if I should sign up for another server from my hosts.

How much space does Surgar need, with a database of around 1000 names and addresses?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jo

The program files will probably take up about 55 - 60 MB of disk space.

It is hard to calculate how much 1000 contacts would take up as there are too many variables involved. For example, I have a test database that has 14 contacts in it and 16 accounts. Altogether, the database takes up a bit under 2 MB.

If we use that as the basis, we could theorize that 1000 contacts would take around 150 MB, maybe. The problem here is that each record can vary in size quite a bit. For example, the description field could either be blank or it could have 10K worth of text. If the latter, how many of the 1000 contacts would that represent? We would have to consider that number in our calculations.

Secondly, often times people overlook the fact that the amount of space required to store a contact only takes into account the contact and none of the related information, for example, history items, scheduled activities, e-mails, etc. Usually e-mails and History are the areas that grow the fastest.

If you think you are going to be in a tight spot within a year, get more disk space now.
