Slow Contact Select

I've recently moved sugar to external site and had the probleme that when trying to use SELECT when in an account to select a contact it would time out. I think the default was set to 30 secs. I've increased it to 80 secs, whcih obviously serves the purpose of making it work, but 80 secs!??

I've always felt it was slow, but it never bothered me - NOW IT DOES.

Running Sugar 4.2.1a with only about 522 contacts.

Anybody any ideas or knowledge of previous threads on this?

Looks like your new server is very slow
if it is hosting server, may be there are many web sites hosted if it is your server you can try to restart the mysql.

I can accpet that the server is slow. I want to know what the lower "acceptable" limit of servers is possible with Sugar. I'm trialling a PII with 384MB ram running FreeBSD, so I'm not expecting too much.

Wiith compression running I'm getting most screens in the low seconds range and with a few more tweaks the bandwidth will become the bottleneck.

It's just this pop up that takes exceptionally long hence my query. I note that even when running it locally with a Win 2000 O/s this function is fairly slow.

Something I've just contemplated is that I'm using "???" as a default surname when I don't know it, as sugar requires this field.
