Something weird with currency fields

I created a custom currency field for Accounts, and I've been testing it with a test account, and twice today it has reset itself for no apparent reason from 200000.67 to 200.00 after working fine for a few minutes beforehand. Opening the record, changing something and saving it might be what's causing the issue.

This field is absolutely critical to what needs to be done, any suggestions? I basically need a number field (although currency would be best, in case we decide to change which currency we use in the system which is a real possibility) that can handle at least 9 digits (10 or 12 would be best, to be safe) and 2 decimal places. I might have to go with a text field if push comes to shove but I really want to get this currency field working.

Think I solved it. There's a bug in Studio that causes it to create floats with no decimal places (what's the point of a field like that?) so I had to manually change the field type in the database. I edited the extension vardefs as well.
