Default Speed problem - Shared server with GoDaddy

I have been with GoDaddy for about 2 years hosting SugarCRM on a shared server. My normal server response time shown at the bottom of the sugar screen is usually 3-5 seconds. Its not the fastest thing in the world, but i deal with it. Over the last week, the server response time has been anywhere from 30-40 seconds. I called GoDaddy 3 times this week and they keep saying it is a load problem. The first two times i called they said they would fix it by either moving me to another shared server or some other action on their end. I spoke with them again today, and they said they recommend me upgrading to either a virtual dedicated server or a dedicated server. The problem i have with that is that it is expensive. i have a small operation and i am not prepared to spend $50-80 per month when i am spending $5 a month now.

Has anyone else experienced this? i am thinking of simply moving to another hosting service since i never had problems on a shared server until now. What else can I do?

Please keep in mind i am not a tech person, so please keep it simple. Any input would be greatly appreciated... Please HELP!!! :
    _______________
    Sugar Version 5.2.0 (Build 5380)
    MySQL Version 5

I dont know the rest of the info, i can find out though if it is necessary...

    Hi Joey,

I am also on a shared server with goDaddy and have recently begun to see serious speed issues with Sugar. What used to be 3- 5 seconds in Dec and Jan is now 12-40 seconds with quite a few timeouts.

My other apps on the same server at goDaddy are seeing quick responses, so I am not sure it is a goDaddy issue as much as what might have been upgraded or changed with PHP, etc. I am somewhat stumped.

If you find out anything, can you post back? Likewise, if I see that anything changes, I will as well.

    Thanks,

    Teo

Well there are some steps you can take, they are described in the Wiki. They generally take away some functionality to improve speed.

A lot of stuff which doesn't influence the features of SugarCRM can also be done, but not on a shared server. I'm talking about APC, apache config, etc.

Could you describe the size of your database?
    Developers go here
    Businesses go there (Dutch)

    Modules:
SugarDev.net Developer Tools | Config | Dutch Language Pack

    teoleonard,

I have not seen any improvements and dont know what to do anymore. I still have not changed, and i am honestly afraid to change. I dont want to be without sugar, and i am not sure what is involved with a switch. Right now, im just dealing with the slowness.

How do i check the size of the data base? where is the wiki article?

    Thanks,
    Joey
