Default Starting Sugarcrm on OSX - stupid situation

    Hello,

I feel like there must be some easy answer to this and I'm just overlooking it.

I installed (Bitrock Windows Installer (54.05 MB EXE) - Installs Apache, MySQL, PHP and SugarCRM on your Windows system.) on my XP Professional machine. Everything nice and works great.

I also installed the OSX version on my iBook laptop (10.3.9). It ran fine the first time. Everything nice.

I've gone back to the iBook (OSX) and can't figure out for the life of me how to start up the program again.

Can someone please guide me in the easiest terms possible on how to start up this program again?

    Thanks,
    Matt

Open up your browser and type your IP address in followed by the sugar directory on you webserver, then index.php.
    For instance: http://172.17.2.134/sugar/index.php

    Dear Danielg42,

Thanks for replying. I thought it should be that easy, but when I type that into the browser it says the requested URL is not found.

The install of Sugarcrm placed it's whole directory structure under Applications. I don't know for certian, but it seems like the web server looks for files somewhere else.

If I were to move the whole sugarcrm-4.2.0 installed directory from Applications to the webserver folder, would that work? (I guess I can try).

On my PC it's required that I start the various services (Apache, MySQL) and then open the program. I can't tell if that is happening on the Mac. I feel it's probably not.

I don't mean to sound confusing, but if there is any way to help me figure this out I'd be most grateful.

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Matt,

I recently removed the Bitrock stack from my Mac, so I'm going from memory here.

As I recall, the Bitrock stack for Mac was installed into /Applications/sugarcrm-4.2.0 (or similar version number). In order to start up the Apache and MySQL servers, I needed to open Terminal and execute a shell script in that directory -- sugarcrm.sh, or something along those lines. That fired up the Apache instance and the MySQL instance, and then the Sugar instance was located in the htdocs sub-directory one level below the /Applications/sugarcrm-4.2.0 directory.

Then it was a simple matter of accessing http://localhost through the browser to get to the contents of htdocs. Although, as I recall, the version of the Bitrock stack that I had installed came configured with Apache on port 8080 or 8888 instead of 80.

If you're still having problems getting the instance up and running, I'll reinstall the Bitrock stack onto my Mac so I can give you more definitive instructions.

    Good luck!

    Dear Jnassi,

Thanks, I think this might be what was needed; I just need the command to put before the sugarctl.sh file? I'm new to Terminal today, but I'm getting the hang of it and can navigate to the file, I just need to know what to do with it.

This is where I started, but I couldn't figure out how to get this file to run (or do it's thing - whatever that is).

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hey,

That's all great. After lots of stressing, that got me back in to the program. The only issue now is that I ended up moving the sugar directory around to get it to work.

But I see it's got to be in Applications to work.

When I open the Terminal it gives me my user directory as default. how do I navigate to the Applications folder from there? It seems like I can go into the directory structure, but not above it, where Applications would be.

I really appreciate your help, thank you. So much time and effort saved.

    Matt,

Try this within Terminal: cd /Applications/sugarcrm-4.2.0 (or whatever the version number is for you)

I got the same issue. Still working on re-starting - as I launch the command I am getting the following response. Any idea?

    $$ ./sugarctl.sh start
    ./sugarctl.sh : mysql started at port 3306
    chown: /Applications/sugarcrm-4.2.0/mysql/data/mysqld.log: Operation not permitted
Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /Applications/sugarcrm-4.2.0/mysql/data
    Syntax OK
(13)Permission denied: httpd: could not open error log file /Applications/sugarcrm-4.2.0/apache2/logs/error_log.
    Unable to open logs
./sugarctl.sh : httpd could not be started

    Couple of questions:
=> Upon having the syntax right and the above command working. Is there a way to have it starting automatically everytime my MAC restarts?
=> I already had Apache bundle with the OS. It looks like Apache was re-installed with SugarCRM. Is there an installation option that would allow me to only have Apache installed 1 time?

    Thanks
    Phil
