Studio: Changing layout keeps rolling back old layout

Hi there,

I am trying to change the layout of my contacts form.

When I make the change, and click "Save and Deploy" the layout reverts to what it was before.

I suspect that this is a file permissions issue and are not sure where to fix it, can someone point me in the right direction?

Ok I am thinking that a certain file does not have "666" permissions and hence any changes are not happening...I cannot pinpoint the file, can anyone help??

Hi, doubleone.

First of all make sure you have write access to the layouts.
After that, copy the modules/Contacts/DetailView.html (in case 4.5.1 or older) or the modules/Contacts/metadata/detailviewdefs.php (in case 5.0.0) to the custom/modules/Contacts and make sure the user related to your web server has write access to that.

Try to modify the layout again.

can you indicate exactly which file needs to have write access, can you confirm that this is 666 access?

I need to check up on the above, it could be the problem.

Hi, doubleone

It is an option to ensure write access to the sugarcrm directory.

But better than that is chown -R webuser.webuser sugar_directory.

Where webuser is the user under which the apache web server is running.

The 666 chmod has security issue (and it is the number of the beast!!!)

Ok, I have checked my permissions and all is as it should be - my webhost helped me out.

Now I am still having the same issues - it must have to do with something else.

I think its best if I show you, using screenshots my exact problem -

Firstly, I this is what I see on the Studio > Contacts > Layouts > EditView page is:

And then I try bring in the "Champion?" field




I then click save, and ito goes back to step to the original layout:



what files are involved here, do you have any more ideas as to where the problem lies?

Hi, doubleone.

You are almost there.

Clicking "Save" button you only save the layout into the temp layout: custom/working/modules/Contacts/metadata/editviewdefs.php

But clicking into "Save and Deploy" you perform this action and copy the created layout into custom/modules/Contacts/metadata/editviewdefs.php, which is what you want.

Yes - when I click "Save and Deploy" that is when the "Champion?" field is removed from the layout and the layout goes back to what it was before..I have been trying that...

I have subsequently found out however that there is no "editviewdefs.php" file in the folder that you mentioned: custom/working/modules/Contacts/metadata/

could this be the problem?

Perhaps.

Try to customize another layout.
If the error persist then check if the directory custom/working/modules/ModuleName/ has been created.
If not check if the custom/working/modules has been created.
If not it could be a write access issue.

OK, I have taken a screenshot of what exists here, I do not see the directory: custom/working/modules/ModuleName/
but I do see that custom/working/modules has been created.
