Default Studio/Module Builder - Add Fields Error

    Hello -

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

This problem occurred in 5.5 and has continued to 6.0. We saw similar problems reported in 5.5 and followed all posted replies to no avail. The error continues in 6.0 but took on a new flavor.

The issue is that we cannot "Add Fields" in either Studio or Module Builder. In 5.5, we received Javascript errors and posted those in previous posts. We also saw similar posts but never found a solution.

    In 6.0, the symptoms are:
    Admin=>Studio=>Pick a Module=>Fields=> Click "Add Field" button.

I have attached a screen shot. We receive the "Add Field" dialog with an error at the top of the panel and one at the bottom (different errors). The buttons to "Save" or "Cancel" are not available - it's not that they're disabled...they're just not there at all. The only option is to "X" out of the dialog.

Replies to posts recommended permission changes as well as certain PHP versions. We followed all of those and the issue was not resolved.

We loaded a vanilla copy of 6.0 along with sample data and the system worked fine. We are not sure where to go from here. We are running Sugar 6.0, IIS, and SQL Server.

    Thank you again.

    Bob

If I remember correctly there was once a problem with having too many custom fields in a module. It seems as if this may a remainder of these old days. It started from the 10th or 11th field.

Did you try to carry over your data to a newly installed version? It's probably a long shot but sometimes I find customer implementations that are costomized to death and I have to rejuvenate them...

However, I will dig a bit deeper if my time permits.

    Robert -

Thank you for your reply. I am not sure how we would accomplish this task - we use the built-in tools.

I believe you are suggesting that we create a vanilla 6.0 installation and then copy over our data files as well as the customizations and see if that works - rather than using the built in upgrade/migration tools.

If that is correct, I'm sure there is something more that we would have to do besides just copying our data. Can you point us in the right direction?

We have been struggling with this for 6 months or more and have a need to make a few changes to the system to reflect changes to our company - and we are stuck.

Thank you again for your help.

    Bob

Exclamation Re: Studio/Module Builder - Add Fields Error

Looking for any additional assistance from the community. We spoke with a Sugar consultant who recommended we turn off "display errors" in php.ini.

We did that. Same result - only now the errors don't display (see attached Word doc w/ before/after screen shots).

We found out that we really don't have that many custom fields - so not sure that Robert's post of a wildly customized site is necessarily applicable.

We love Sugar and have run our company on it for the last couple of years, but if we can't get this fixed, we may have to consider alternatives.

Thank you very much for reviewing.

By my last count on your screenprint you have at least 15 fields which exceeds the number that once created problems and you didn't try what I told you.

Create a new instance, copy over the custom directory and connect a copy of your actual database. Check what happens. If you find the same phenomen delete 7 or 8 fields from this list and try again.

And whoever this Sugar "consultant" was - tell him to look for another job. It's like telling you to use pain killers for an acute appendicitis.

    Robert -

Thanks for your reply. After your previous message, we asked a few questions to clarify and when you didn't reply, we thought that you had left the thread.

We did try things with a "fresh" copy of 6.0. However, we didn't "copy over the custom directory" by hand since we didn't realize that's what your original post was recommending.

    We'll give it a shot.

The consulting company is Sugar's largest consulting partner - they seemed to know what they are doing and said that they had done many larger customizations than the additional fields we had. But we'll pass along your advice .

    Thank you.

I am not aware of any Sugar consulting partner because such a term does not exist. Sugar has only partners and their sole qualification is that they pay a certain amount of money per year to get leads and have their names shown in bigger letters on the partner page. That's all there is. This doesn't exclude that there aren't any knowledgeable people out there but this particular person doesn't seem to be one of them.

Now if you have severe stomach pain and somebody tells you to take pain killers - would you trust this person? Without having examined you? You might be dead by tomorrow...

And once again: Install a new version, copy over the custom directory, copy over any other new directories that may have been created by the module builder and connect an copy or your old database. Then see what happens.
