I wanted to install Sugar 6.0RC on my linux box, but was looking at the software version and noticed the supported PHP version is 5.2.x is required.
I currently have PHP 5.1.6. Can I successfully run SugarCRM 6.0RC with PHP 5.1.6?

No, you need to use a supported version of PHP
