Default Is Sugar CE email terminally broken???

After three wasted days (this time around) of dealing with the sugar email settings, I once again come to the conclusion that sugar email is terminally broken, and possibly by design. One only has to wade through the forums to find dozens (thousands?) of emails concerning the email problems within sugar CE... any edition!

Is this by design? I am honestly asking... Is the email purposely broken to discourage open source use of the program? I now believe that is the case. You see, nothing about it is intuitive. Even error messages are simply seen as the dreaded "undefined" generic place holder message. Or, are they errors?

Documentation is so weak on the subject, one can't even determine the programmers intended use of of the basic settings, how they interact, or what the outcomes should be.

Does anyone agree? Or is it just me. I really don't want to scrap all this work, but I need to know if I am wasting my time. If any developer secretly knows about a conspiracy to make sugar email inoperable, would you please let the rest of us know? You could even just delete it from the CE releases and offer it as an upgrade only.

At least thousands and thousands of man hours wouldn't be wasted on this pointless endeavor.

    Thank you!

    HI,

Having wasted plenty of time myself we moved to Thunderbird. Opacus has a great plug-in that will allow you to archive emails to sugar and retrtieve contact info. The paid version allows for more back and forth. The free is great even as it is!

Suggest you give up and us a real email client. It's been suggested before and you have to wonder sometimes what is in the developers minds. But they would have been better off abandoning the email module a long time ago and make the connectors to the various key email programs and move on.

Just my two cents! Sugar is really great just has some glaring holes. Calendar comes to mind as well, except there are two great calendar programs out there now that blow away the default calendar. We use ECalendar.

    Best wishes,

I am not one known to be shy about my criticism of faults I've noticed in Sugar, specially those that I consider serious hindrances, such as email.

However, I also think it is important to be factual in one's criticism, as it is unfair to any business to stir up controversy where none exists. That being said, the email system does not work any differently in the paid-for versions when compared to the community (free) version -- side note: all the editions are open source, hence why I distinguish them as paid/free.

Anyway, my point is that there isn't any collusion on the part of Sugar or its developers to somehow discourage use of the free version or make the free version work with more problems. Email is just as frustrating to those that pay as those that don't.

I also want to iterate that this uniformity doesn't make the existence of the issues acceptable, and I've certainly expressed my discontent with the related problems in the past, just want to address the assertion that Sugar is somehow purposely doing something bad to non-paying users, because that's the furthest thing from the truth.

    Thanks for your addition Angel,

We gave up since it was too difficult to work with (We started to consider it back with 4.5 and 5.0 version when it really wasn't a very good client.). The newer versions look better and seems to work better.

I agree with you on the colusion part. No way that is happening. The free has way to many things it if that was happening!

    Have a great weekend

Permissions, permissions, permissions, the actual mailserver and the cache. I have it working, although 6.2.2 upgrade broke a few things. Fixed them but what a pain. Best to just avoid. Not that I have found any other CRM with 'good' email. Connectors is the way to go. keep it out of SugarCRM
