Sugar CSS Not working?

I installed Sugar on my server and got the databases installed and everything. i can verify them in phpmyadmin. however it doesn't look correct. the install process had the correct formatting. but now that I login, it looks wrong. any ideas?

The cache seems to be an issue. Actually permissions and cache.. I see it happen with the system messages, the cache changes itself and we start seeing 'undefined' instead of 'please wait', or 'loading'. Already had the template issue to start but cache permissions are really buggy. Dashlets show this same issue. Any graph based ones don't work. Someone had a work around but it involved resetting the cache permissions, or, a hack to the code forcing the cache to change it's permissions to 755. I can't imagine this in production. Or I can, but it's buggy.

How did you fix it? I confirmed that cache is set to 755.

The cache has to be set to 777
On many web servers an application can not have the same permissions as the web server. It's just not going to happen. Web Security. So yes SugarCRM forces you to open up your install to hacking. You get it one way or the other. The answer would be to pay for the hosted service by SugarCRM or move to another web server that can support, or has been modified to support SugarCRM.


To be clear they don't all do that. I have installs that are fine without such drastic measures. It all depends on the hosting company. Usually if they support SugarCRM in their scripts your OK. If you have to do a manual install look out. That's a bad sign on the part of a hosting company. We should install from SourceForge but seeing an absence of SugarCRM in the scripts is a warning.
