sugar db growing exponentially

Hello,

I am trying to sort out why the db is growing so much

using 4.5.1 e (i know, in the process of upgrading) on linux redhat - php 5.0.2 - mysql 4.0.1

we had a pretty large db to start off with - 88mb - as we did a migration from goldmine to sugarcrm

that was in August 07 - it slowly crept up to 120 megs by Dec - then 200 - 400 - and now in march 08 - it is over 670 megs.

and there are onlly really two users on the system - and only one of them is using it for email.

any ideas as to what is happening - is this normal - i suspect that attachment are to blame here - possibly outgoing email campaigns - i know some mailing go to 4000 contacts each.

Hi Michael,

It likely is due to e-mail. E-mail tends to be the fastest growing portion of any CRM system.

It is also possible that there are a number of records that are being deleted but are still in the database waiting to be purged.

When a delete is performed withing Sugar, the entry is not physically removed from its corresponding table within the database. It is only marked as deleted and hidden from view. If they are not removed from the database, they will only add to the size of the database.

I agree with Angel and would just add that we have seen problems where the same e-mail is being fetched over and over again leading to an exponential growth even though the volume of e-mail may be very low. You end up with a huge amount of duplicated e-mail in the system.
