Default sugar open source implementation Nonprofit

Hello, I would like to know if someone could advice us in the first process of implementing Sugar CRM. We are a small non profit based in Barcelona. At the moment we have all our volunteer and members spread in excel sheets. As for this I am considering sugar.

To begin we have downloaded the open source which is free and installed it on our server. And now reading the manual and seeing how could I configure it and make it adaptable for the needs a non-profit has. My questions are:

Is sugar adaptable to non profits ?
Which are the first steps we should do ?
For the installation process, how can I verify if its done ok?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, but then I am not sure what you mean by adaptable. It is free, Open source and configurable.

Read the manual and plan out what data should go in what modules, maybe the best route for some data would be a custom module built in module builder. There is no doubt, the more planning you do before you import any data the better off you will be in the future. Also getting a book might not be a bad idea if you have never implemented a CRM.

If it works more than likely it is installed correctly.
