SugarCE-Full-6.3.0RC1 Broken Images Help

Hi,
I've done a fresh install (first time installing sugar) and everything was completely jumbled. I've modified all permissions to 755 for folders and all files.
Everything seems fine, formatting looks lovely, but all images show up as broken links. Inspecting links and images within some folders shows up as if they're broken also. I have no idea how to replace those files in case they're corrupt in the zip file downloaded.
Also, when I try to look at the image as a link in a browser, it tells me the file doesn't have viewing permissions, but my file folder shows that the permissions are fine.
I wouldn't mind updating the theme, but haven't been able to find clear directions (if anyone can point me to this too, that'd be cherry).
i'm completely stumped. Help!

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix the broken imgs?

I'm evaluating this for my friend's company to recommend whether or not to use it. if it's this difficult to install and use, i don't know if we'll be able to use this.

from another thread here, someone answered my question about how to upload themes. Using module loader in admin is the way to upload it. But apparently, for this revision (Sugar: 6.3.0RC1), no themes are compatible.
so still stumped. images are corrupt in the folders after extracting and installing.
is there something wrong with this release that the images are all broken?
I DO have all files in all folders set to 755 permissions. i've verified that the images in the folders are there and permissions ok, but inspecting them on the server looks like they themselves are broken.
