Question SugarCRM OS v4.2.1b error: charts are blank

    SugarCRM OS Version 4.2.1b
    PHP: 5.1.2 (also tried 4.4.2)
    MySQL: 5.0.18
    Firefox 1.5.0.6 /IE 6 (Flash player 9,0,16,0)
    Server: Apache 2.0.54/Linux

I'm a newbie to sugarCRM and am seriously excited about this OS project - great work everyone involved so far. However, on my first installation (at Dreamhost), I've got an issue with the charts - they're displaying a blank area (nothing but white).
I've read the other posts in the forum and I've tried:
    - clearing the cache (via the admin panel)
    - 'repaired' the install (via the admin panel)
    - checked the Firefox adblock plugin
    - I've now changed to PHP v 4.4.2
But still just blank charts (on the home page and in the dashboard). The flash movie is loaded (right click on a chart is properly populated with usual flash player stuff). The Sugar INC demo works fine so I'm guessing its something to do with my install. Has anyone got any experience with a similar issue and worked out a fix?

    Many thanks,
    James

Try setting the cache directory to writeable. The charts use a dynamically generated xml file which gets stored in the cache directory. if the apache user can't write to this directory then the charts fail.

let me know if that works.

Joe thanks for your speedy response. I've verified the permissions on the cache directory and have reset that and the other directories mentioned in the install guide to Chmod 766. I have no idea whether this is the correct setting but seemed to make some sense (to me know knows very little about this!).
    These files are:
    /cache/
    /custom/
    /data/
    /modules/
    config.php

When I ran the 'clear cache' from admin, it appeared to delete about 5 files so I guess something was being written. Anyway, having (re)set the file permissions we're still in the same place unfortunately with blank charts :-(
Do you know which files the installation uses for charts so that I can re-upload just those files and check nothing was corrupted in the install/upload?

    Thanks,
    James

James, what happens when you hit 'Refresh" next to the chart?

Well, I know that on the home page, the My Pipeline calls this url.
    /index.php?module=Home&action=index&mypbss_refresh= true
I would start by lookiing at the index.php page in the Home Module.
Look for something referring to mypbss_refresh.

I don't know off the top of my head without looking at the files myself.
Let me know if you need more help.

    Joe,

I tried to figure out which files I needed to re-validate but it started getting a bit hairy. Since there weren't loads of others here with the same issue I guessed it must be something to do with my installation. I've now deleted all the files from the server and reinstalled them and BINGO...it works!

Thanks for your help but I guess this time it was just a corrupt file somewhere ;-)

    Cheers,
    James
