SugarCRM Search function

Hello,
I cannot use the search bar at the top right to search anything. Nothing works. However, searching within a specific module (for example, going to "Contacts" and searching on the contact's search engine) works successfully. what field are you trying to search? Not all fields can be searched using that global search by default

I just tried searching (in 5.2.0f) and the simple strings I tried (like account names and contact last names) were all found successfully.

The application guide opened through Help says:

Global Search
You can perform a global keyword search at the system level for text that matches the beginning of key field names. The system searches Accounts, Contacts, Leads, Opportunities, Cases, and Projects and displays search results for each of these modules in separate sub-panels. Global Search searches only one field at a time. For example, if you are searching for an individual, you can enter either the first name or the last name in the Search field.
Depending on your database configuration, global searches may or may not be case-sensitive. In general, global searches on Sugar installations running on the MySQL database are not case-sensitive and those running on Oracle are case-sensitive.
All searches in Sugar automatically append the % wildcard character when searching text fields. For example, searching for “Acme” will match account names such as “Acme Industries” or “Acme Funds”. Searching for “%Acme” will also match account names such as “ABC Acme Industries”.
To perform a global search, enter the keyword in the Search field and click GO. If you want to search only some of these modules, click the Down arrow and select the modules from the list and then click GO.

The module with the most records displays at the top of the search results page

So I tried searching for text in less obvious field like Accounts > Description and others and they all failed.

Are you searching for text that appears only in fields other than the main "name" fields?

I am searching for anything I can, contact names, phone number, even case number. I am getting no results found. I even searched for a single digit and got nothing. I am using sugar 5.5

Edit: just attempted to search. I inserted % as a prefix when I searched for a name. It went through. How can I search by phone number?

Did you import your data? Did it have any leading spaces?

If you use the search on the top you better use % to get a result %like%, diferent from the searchs on the module pages where you dont need to use it. You cannot search the phone by default, only the main fileds of accounts, contact, case and oportunities are setup up.

Is there a known way to modify this module to allow searching custom fields and other fields such as phone number?

Hi,

I also have a problem when searching for phone numbers using the global search. It used to work on 5.2. Was it removed in 5.5? How can I re-enable it?
