Default System Check Acceptance - MAC install /Not valid save session directory?

Now I know this has probaily been here before, however I'm new to MAC and new to this type of install - so I'm out of my depth alittle. I was following an excellent article that was helping me to install sugar, php and sql until I hit this:

There explanation was make it writable, so how do i do this in "i'm not clever" mode: one thing i saw was "use the comand prompt - in windows i know where this is - in MAC i dont have a clue?

    Component Status
    PHP version Unsupported (ver 5.1.4)
    MySQL Database OK
    XML Parsing OK
    cURL Library OK
Writable SugarCRM Configuration File (config.php) Warning: Not Writeable
    Writable Custom Directory Not Writeable
Writable Modules Sub-Directories and Files Not Writeable
    Writable Data Sub-Directories Not Writeable
    Writable Cache Sub-Directories Not Writeable
Writable Session Save Path () Not A Valid Directory
PHP Safe Mode Turned Off OK
PHP Allow Call Time Pass Reference Turned On OK
PHP Memory Limit >= 32M OK (No Limit)

Any help at this stage is much appreciated. If I have to open the above files, where are they located? and what files do these relate to.

    Thanks in advance

Default Not a valid directory session save path?

Okay I'm perhaps not a dumb as I thought, I've now manged to change all of the files to writable. however I still get the following:

Writable Session Save Path () Not A Valid Directory

For those that are like me:

I highlighted all of the Files under Custom, Cahe, Modules and Data and the config.php pressed get info and then changed the permissions in one go, and applied to enclosed items.

    I'm using entropy php 5.1.4, mysql 5.1-1686 on MAC OS X 10.4.6
