Default Taking sugar on anoher machine

    Hi,

I am using sugarcrm 4.5.0c I have done a couple of modifications and customisations in it. It works fine on my machine. Now, I have to take these changes to 2 other machines. One has Linux and the other has Windows XP. These machines have the same verion of sugar installed on them. Now I want my changes to be available on those machines too.

    Any suggestions are welcome.

Cool Re: Taking sugar on anoher machine

    Easy as pie..

Sagar, here is what you need:
    http://kdiff3.sourceforge.net/

After you install Kdiff and then spend a few minutes reading the documentation, you will have no trouble replicating your 'modifications and customisations' to other Sugar deployments..

You did not specify the OS of the SOURCE machine ;-)

I would **HIGHLY** recommend you install the SAMBA utils on the LINUX box, then mount (SMBFS) the drive the SUGAR distribution is located on the WINDOWS box and use RSYNC (which you can get from the www.samba.org site) to SYNC the stuff from the LINUX box to the WINDOWS box.

If your SOURCE MACHINE is Linux too, you can use RSYNC to sync the stuff on the LINUX box too.

I could not live without RSYNC. I do everything with it: backup, snapshot, syncing sugar stuff, syncing souce code and more. Its one of the best utils around to do this kind of stuff.

    I code, therefore I am!

    Awesome!
    A feloow samba addict..

I've previously reccommended samba, in post

however, it should be noted that installing, configuring, and administering Samba is outside of the technical knowhow of the masses/majority.

More importantly, Samba presents a HORIFFICALLY IMMENSE security vulnerability, if not configured properly AND behind an adequate firewall. This such area of risk is only addressing traffic and intruders from the Internet.

On a seperate area of risk and issue, is LAN traffic....

Anyways, Samaba is absolute great; however, like in my previous post reccomending it, use of Samba requires setup & configuration by a very experienced sys admin of whom is highly knowledge & experienced with networking, firewalls, and security.

Any useful implementation of Samba is founded on allowing write access.
This FULL access is not limited to just certain paths (ie webserver docs), but the servers ENTIRE filesystem.

If an intruder can compromise Samba, they have just compromised AND gained entry to your entire server & any attached networks. Samba is a hackers dream as a very short & quick way in, it's like a short-cut back-door.. lol

And even with our strong security, we only run the Samba daemons when needed, and on demand via WebMin control panel in order to reduce any possible risk potention.

I'm continuosly annoyed at the massive amount of daily traffic to one of our servers, in which are non-stop intrusion attempts. It is unbelievable, and as locked down as I have that server, with minimal daemons running, and behind one hell of a firewall protecting that and one other server in which I;ve gone so far as to ban entire countries (via thousands of IP ranges).

Back on topic, Samba is not cross-platform compatible and as much as DISAGREE with single end users running Sugar on their personal windows machines, it is all too common, thus a cross platform solution is needed..

Kdiff3 is available in both Linux & Windows editions, and I believe is the best and most effective solution.
Fairly simple as well, just uncompress (from original Sugar distribution) a clean copy of Sugar and of the same version, then diff'em..

    On a different note...

jobst, what other tricks & secrets ya got up your sleave that might be new to me???

If your smart enough to be running Samba (and obviously Linux as well), then another one of them 'computer nerds', lol, and thus [you gotta be] a wealth of info..

    Hello everyone,

I have read all your posts and I sincerely couldn't stop myself from laughing (No offences meant !!!) Maybe I have not understood the gravity of the issue.

Here is what I have tried. I made all the changes on the sugar installed on my machine (Windows XP). Now I installed a fresh copy of sugar on a Linux machine and then replaced the sugarcrm folder (in htdocs) by the sugarcrm folder (in htdocs) of my machine. Well, I have copied this using cygwin. Also, I prepared a script of my database (a .sql backup file) and then replaced the database on the Linux machine with my database using MySQL Administrator.

I know thats not the correct way out but it works for me. I have tested the application and its working fine. Now, since you all have given me quitte complex methods, so I am afraid that I might have missed out on something which could cause me some problem in future.

Experts, please review my case and acquaint me with the possible issues that could arise. In case you need some more clarification, I would be more than happy to describe.

    Thanks.
