    Default Template variables

    Hi,

I am using Sugar CRM (Version 4.5.1e (Build 1049)) on an XAMPP/Ubuntu server. I am accessing accessing the CRM through Firefox 2.0.0.6 on FeistyFawn and Firefox 2.0.0.6/IE 7.05 on Windows XP.

I want to use an email template with variables from the contacts and accounts tables. I have used the template composer and inserted the appropriate variables in the rich text editor. I chose the contact and select the template. However when the email is sent the organisation variables are correclty but the contacts variable are not. The space where the contact variable is supposed to be is simply blank.

I have reconstructed the template a number of times and I have tried other variables from the Contact table in diferent parts of the email to see if that works. No luck.

Can anybody suggets what is going on here?

    With thanks

    Emmett

I have not heard of this before. You could reset your logging level to Debug and see if the log sheads any light on what is going in. The SQL queries would be the most telling.

    Ken,

Will do. How do I set the logging?

Anyway I have done a bit more testing.

If I select the name in the email form and then select the template then the variables from both the contact and the account table are filled in correctly, in both Firefox 2.0.0.6 and IE7.

However, if I select the name in the email form, then the account and then select the template what happens is that the contact variables are lost. The same happens if I change the select order and select the name in the email form, then the template and then select the account. Selecting the account, then the name and then the template makes no difference. This happens in both Firefox 2.0.0.6 and IE7.

What seems to be happening is that selecting an account to assign the email to results in losing the contact variables. The email is still assigned to the contact in the database so it is not the email/contact link that is being lost.

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards

    Emmett

Logging can be set in /your-sugar-install-dir/log4php.properties

    Log is saved in /your-sugar-install-dir/sugarcrm.log

    Thanks,

I've done that. What am I looking for in the log?

A bit more information on this issue. I can get around the problem of variables not being inserted into the email from both the Account and the Contact tables by creating custom fields in the Contact table with the data that I want in the template and using those fields in the template. Not great but at least it works.

But...if I want to assign the email to an Account as well as the contact using the field at the top right part of the email form results in all the variable values in the email being 'lost'. All very odd.

Does anybody actually use the email templates and multiple tables without these problems?

I also had this issue where I would attempt to send e-mails and the contact name was always blank! But I was using a dif version of Sugar than I am now and have not tested with 4.5.1 yet.

Any more word on this problem?
