Test system setup?

Could anybody give me some basic instruction on how to set up a test SugarCRM instance on the same server I´m running the live SugarCRM?

1st: MAKE A COMPLETE BACKUP OF YOUR FILES AND DATABASES

2nd:
Copy your production system to a parallel directory e.g.

.../htdocs/sugar to
.../htdocs/test

backup the database, rename the database name of the production system in a testdatabase namein the database backup file.

test that backup file on an other machine!

then restore the renamed database

open the config.php of the test system and rename the database name and the site_url

DO NOT MAKE ANY MISTAKES!!!

That´s what I thought would be one way. I´m going to try this in a virtual machine first
