Is there a way to include the module 'description' field in the global search?

I'm sure some of our sales staff will be entering terms in there and will later want to find all records (contacts for example) that have certain words in the 'description' (such as "likes jelly donuts")...

Yes : via the Admin -> Studio -> Edit a Module -> your_module -> Edit Layout -> Search Form and adding your field (maybe after adding line).

Actually, I meant the "global search" in the top right corner (theme depending) of the website. But now that you mention it I have already done your suggestion and that is probably sufficient as they won't be searching descriptions too often.

As for my original question, I think the answer probably involved the vardef.php 'unified_search'->true command but the description wasn't defined in the accounts/vardef.php file so I wasn't sure...
