Total System Crash!

We are using a LAMP setup with CE 5b (sandbox)

This is the second time this has happened... first time I was dragging and dropping modules into the group tabs and saved and the whole system just blanks out, no title in the browser tab, no errors... just a totally white and blank screen.

Second time, installed the team 0.1 module and it crashed the sub panels in all of the modules.. as in, it brought up a query error. I uninstalled the team module and the sub panels worked again. However, all of the custom modules that I had loaded were no longer functioning... disappeared from the system. However, they were still showing up in the module loader as being installed. And I do mean ALL of them showed up in module loader and ALL of them were nowhere to be found in the system.

I proceeded to uninstall and reinstall each of the modules and that seemed to be working. When I got to the forums module and did the uninstall... it blanked out the system again. OUCH!!!

So, my questions are these:

1. Has anyone else experienced this?
2. Is there a work around for getting the system back up? (i completely reinstalled last time, but we have a lot of test data this time around)
3. I have done a backup of the system and the DB, however, I am not sure how to restore them without having the system running. Any restore paths?

Basically just looking to see if this issue has occurred with anyone else and if there are ways to recover from it!?
