Default Troubleshoot help 4.5c performance webhost versus local

Ok, I'm hosted with the wonderful siteground group. I've been having problems with my site timing out, dead pages and the like. I tried turning off my corporate vpn, and still have the problem. I've changed browsers, firefox, little better, but still have the problem.

So I loaded bitrock, and downloaded the databases. Working locally, I'm not seeing the problem.

Could you point me to any diagnostics I could look at to see what's up.

Siteground said it's not their problem. I can only really ping the url for performance, that looks fine.
    Thanks

Do you have access to the server logs? There might be evidence in there at the times you experienced specific errors. Also, have you tried accessing the server from another location (home broadband etc).

Great questions both. I looked at server logs through the error logs on CPANEL, and so nothing referring to Sugar, just your common 404's once in a while for other apps.

Orginally I thought this was related to my VPN, so I knocked down the tunnel, and did access. The VPN traffic gets tunnelled through a T1 in Wilimington, DE, about 100 miles away.

I have a FIOS connection here 2 megs up, 15 down, and I still have a problem with the tunnel down. The only thing I haven't done on the server is shut down SSL temporarily. I know tha will probably help a bit, but I will still have issues.

    Thanks for the pointers..

Just another quick sort - check if the hosting company are using mod_security with the optional 'got root' configs (a constantly updated set of default configs to help defend an apache server against sql injection, spam email attacks etc. If they are, then the system may well behave as you are explaining. Have a search though the apache logs again (error) for 500 codes and mod_security messages.
