Unable to configure email settings

I'm trying to setup my email account. I've tried pop and imap and I keep getting the same error when I click the test button:

Test Settings
Unable to create selectable TCP socket (1120 >= 1024)

Please check your settings and try again.

What is the source of the problem?

It is your firewall, where ever it may be...

The message "Unable to create selectable TCP socket (1120 >= 1024)" says clearly that the firewall does not allow the opening of ports greater than 1024. Check the firewall settings.

We tried disabling the firewall, still the same issue... Could it be anything else?

I found the following DEBIAN bug posting:

perhaps an upgrade of php imap module would solve the problem...

Same problem here. More than 1 year has passed. Could anyone solve the problem by an update of the imap module?
