Unable to login from external server

Apologies this may be a non-sugar question, however I have 4.5 working perfectly on an server internal to our network. However, when I try to login to it from a machine external (via the Internet) to our network I am not allowed in. When I attempt to login incorrectly these is a record of this in sugarcrm.log

In config.php the host_name is set to localhost.
In mySQL the database user is created three times:
Once for localhost
Once for internalserver.tld.com
Once for %

Is this perhaps a PHP or MySQL configuration issue? If so, what should I look for. Seems like I've been days on this now :-(

Seems it was an IE6 cookie issue - changed the Privacy settings in IE6 to LOW and everything works fine. Don't understand why though... too much of a newb!
