Upgrade 4.0.1a to 4.2.1 - Error: Upgrade could not start

» Operating system type and version (Linux - Ubuntu Breezy)
» Sugar Suite version (4.0.1a)
» Webserver type (Lampp)

Have been running on 4.0.1a for the last few months with no problems. Am trying to upgrade SugarCRM to the latest 4.2.1 stable version. Have downloaded the .zip file SugarSuite-Upgrade-4.0.1-to-4.2.1-7017.zip but when trying to apply the patch it fails.

Am trying to upgrade by:

1. Log in as admin
2. Select "upgrade wizard" from the admin menu
3. Browse to .zip file
4. Click upgrade button
5. Upgrade appears queued for installation (http://www.mutleyshome.co.uk/sugar/queued_upgrade.png)
6. Click install
7. Select commit and accept default to keep custom layouts (http://www.mutleyshome.co.uk/sugar/c...ds_warning.png)
8. Error recieved stating upgrade could not start (http://www.mutleyshome.co.uk/sugar/f...t_writable.txt)

I am reluctant to change the permissions of the whole Sugar directory to perform the upgrade. Does anyone see any obvious problems with the upgrade path I am taking?

Problem solved!

The files contained in the Sugar directory /opt/lampp/htdocs/ were set with the wrong user/group ownership, this had been retained from when the files were unpacked and copied over to the webserver directory. When these were changed to the user the webserver runs as nobody/nogroup the upgrade installed successfully.
